Bitcoin Talk 016: A Healthy Ecology Does Not Eliminate Evil — Good and Evil Coexist, with Good the Greater

Over the New Year at home, assign yourself a task: explain Bitcoin to your family and friends, spread the thought of Satoshi. Let more people join this decentralised social experiment. If you are sitting at a banquet, or about to attend one, ask the person to your left and right whether they have heard of Bitcoin, whether they have friends buying Bitcoin. If he doesn’t understand Bitcoin, explain it to him in the simplest words. If you can, introduce Bitcoin to everyone in the room.

Within a single system, for the same amount of power, holding hash power costs more than holding coins.
-
Doge’s resilience and vitality are far greater than Ethereum’s.
-
Everything costs something to maintain. Which do you think wastes more: tens of millions of ATM machines, plus the countless reinforced-concrete branches of the Big Four banks, and the human flesh inside them — or hash power?
-
Maintaining a sufficiently incorruptible monetary system requires, above all, so-called “waste”.

POS is an election. If you try to achieve clean monetary governance through POS, the complexity grows exponentially. Next to POW, POS is a toy.
-
POS does cost far less than POW, but the lower the cost, the cheaper the thing, the easier it is to rig — and the easier it is to wipe out in one sweep. If your goal is personal safety, national security, monetary security, what you need is, respectively, the state’s machinery of violence, nuclear weapons, and hash power — not a pile of POS ravings.
