Mutual Destruction

All along, I have maintained a very low degree of socialising — in fact, effectively no socialising at all. The result is that I can find no frame of reference, nor can I truly understand other people’s lives. My knowledge comes from books, from the ancients, from the many who flee real life.

Amid the crowd, yet outside the crowd, I have always been like a maggot, coming and going, muddling through.
